(How polite of them) Here is what Freddie Mac said Thursday: "For yet another week, the fixed-rate mortgages reached another low." The 30 year fixed rate mortgage averaged 4.42 percent. Last year at this time, the 30 year fixed rate mortgage averaged 5.12 percent. The 15 year fixed rate mortgage this week averaged a record low of 3.90 percent. Whoo-hoo. Mortgage rates came down .01 this week. 4.56 percent for the 30 year fixed rate mortgage, down from 4.57 last week. Now if I had some of those cute (and quite annoying in excess) smiley icons, I'd add 20 to my blog. But it's serious. Mortgage rates, the best mortgage rates, are seriously low. And so is America's interest in them. I saw a blog that said something like rates are screaming and we are sleeping right through it. Please don't wait for a crisis to send mortgage interest rates through the ceiling in 5 minutes or less. It happens. I lived through it but it's not fun.
