I Was Always Interested In Money

From the time I was a child, I was interested in money. That's probably because my dad was a banker. Once my dad was promoted to manager, I experienced things most kids never get to do.

My biggest thrill was to enter the shiny bank vault to see where the money was stored. I actually thought all of the money belonged to my dad. My first savings account was opened when I was 3 years old. As soon as I could read, I loved to track my bank book's growing balance.

Entering The World Of Mortgage Lending

After a year of college, I got married and raised 4 amazing daughters but I never lost my passion for helping people with their money. Eventually I entered the world of lending. Mortgage financing had changed considerably since my dad had been a bank manager. In fact, when my husband and I opened our own mortgage company, my dad admitted to me, "Kate, I really don't understand what you do."

My first job in the mortgage industry was by default. The small mortgage company really wanted to hire my husband. After turning down their job offer, he suggested instead that the mortgage company consider me. They reluctantly hired me hoping to lure back my husband to come work for them.

After a couple of months one employee hinted that I was never going to amount to anything in mortgage lending. It didn't really surprise me that I wasn't their top pick. I had spent 18 years as a stay at home mom raising 4 wonderful children. I had little experience to speak of in the business world, let alone mortgage lending.

But I had something else inside. I had a burning desire to succeed and assist people who needed help financing their homes.

My Big Break Helps Thousands Get The Best Mortgage

After a year at the small mortgage company, I came across a job opening at a major mortgage bank. What a break this would be for me, I thought. But my credentials and experience did not come close to the job requirements.

I decided to try anyway even though my resume was still pretty bare. So I did the unthinkable. I used brightly colored paper and wrote about myself in the narrative form. I broke every respected rule regarding resumes.

But you know what? I got the interview! "We had to meet you, Kate, because your resume said your greatest accomplishment in life was being married and raising four children. But we are not sure about hiring you since you have so little job experience. Mortgage lending is a stressful industry. Kate, what makes you think you can be successful?"

All my life, I'd been told I wore my heart on my sleeve. I guess my answer to their question was a good example. I responded without much thought, "If I know how to have a successful marriage and manage 4 teenage daughters, I think this job should be easy."

Well, I got the job and they teased me for many years about my interview. My first year I won Rookie Of The Year and continued on to be one of their most successful mortgage financing officers.

Later my husband and I opened our own mortgage company. We continued on together to help thousands of people obtain mortgage loan approval and receive millions of dollars to finance their homes.
