Improve Credit Rating Settle Credit Card Debt
by Mel
(Denver, Colorado, U.S.)
How can I improve my credit rating? I'm attempting to settle an old debt with a credit card company in return for expunging their record from my credit report. I've offered the whole amount of debt, in a lump sum, but have yet to hear back from them. Otherwise, the other entries in my credit report are in good standing.
Would providing a copy of the certified letter to the credit card company improve my chances of being approved?
Fixing Bad Credit
Dear Mel,
While there is no magic wand to wave across credit problems, the fact that you can pay a debt is full is a great advantage.
When corresponding with a credit card company, always get a response in writing.
Here is a thought. Are you sure your debt is still with the original credit card company? Perhaps they have not responded because your debt was turned over to a collection agency or sold to another credit card company.
Here's a way to keep an eye on your credit.
