How I Started In Real Estate

By the time you finish reading this SBI! Review, you will understand why my heart goes out to anyone hurt by the recession and why I have been searching for a solution.

Let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Steve Ford. Kate Ford, the web master of this website, is my wife.

I have been involved in real estate since 1979.

I began selling real estate in Long Beach, California with Walker & Lee Real Estate. If you remember Walker & Lee, you are most likely qualified to be called an old timer. At the time they were the largest Real Estate Broker in California and one of the biggest in the US.

Not long after I obtained my license, the Savings and Loan Crisis hit California hard. It was very similar to the Credit Crisis we've experienced since 2008.

I was so new I didn't really get what the entire ruckus was about. I just thought that interest rates greater than 15 percent were the norm.

From Real Estate To Lending

So for the first 2 years of my career I didn't sell a house with conventional financing. All my sales were what we called at the time creative financing which really meant owner carry-back.

We could do that because people still had equity in their homes. That's one of the things that made the S&L Crisis different from our current Credit Crisis today.

Because I seem to possess an aptitude for lending, I decided to work for Great Western Bank, one of the largest Savings and Loans in the country at that time. They were pioneers in adjustable rate financing which helped a lot of Californians afford to buy homes in such a high priced state.

Well, Kate followed me into real estate and then into lending too. Eventually we formed our own company, CFG Mortgage Services.

From Mortgage Lending To Mortgage Articles

Today, we no longer originate mortgages. Instead we author articles related to mortgage and real estate. The articles are geared to educating consumers regarding the secret language of our industry. You know what I mean, right?

Anyway, I gave you that brief history so that you can see I am not making up what I am about to tell you.

At the beginning of this article I asked you a question. Do you remember the question? I asked you, "Why did you enter your profession?"

Family Is My Priority - What's Yours?

I don't know your answer but I know mine. In my life, my family is my priority. Mortgage lending gave me something I wanted badly, freedom. I could make more money than I could at an hourly job. So it gave me a lot of financial freedom.

It also gave me time. I didn't have to punch a clock. So it gave me freedom of time to go to my daughters' soccer games and swim meets.

Lastly, mortgage lending helped me do something I loved, helping people reach their financial goals. It was so much fun.

SBI! Replaces The Missing Spark

Although I no longer actively originate loans, I watch how the industry has been devastated and continues to be hit hard. Honestly, I don't think that's going to end any time soon.

So I have been searching for answers and found something called Site Build It! or SBI! for short.

I'll be the first to admit it's not for everybody but it put a new spark back in me that's been missing.

Even though I have grown a little older and my kids have kids, I find that I still have that desire to be free.

I want to be free financially. I want to be free to enjoy my family.

In fact one of my dreams is to give my family, all 4 kids and their husbands, and my 9 grandchildren an all-expenses-paid trip to an exotic location each year.

And I still want to help other families be free too. Nothing makes me feel better.
